ive seen that the smaller the tank the more difficult it is to keep the parameters stable.. if i wanted to do a smaller 20 gallon fowlr tank. would it be worth it to have a little 10 gal sump running, or should i just go bigger than 20 gallons.

thanks,
Brandon

Any amount of additional water is helpful. Yes its worth it to go bigger than a 10g, but 10g is still better than no sump at all.

im talking about the actual tank size. but i guess what im asking is ~30 gallons hard to keep stable? or is evaporation a big issue?

My 25 gallon loses around 600ml a day. I have no probs keeping it stable but I wouldn't want to miss even one day of top ups.
Staying on top of it has worked for me. Water change every week without fail.
Auto top up with dosing could work.
