:(:( Just found the tang dead :( i had him in with the base rock and the power head i had in their malfunctioned and started sucking instead of blowing...he got sucked up :( im so sad he had such a good trusting personality.

awww. sorry to hear that.... :( I'm in the middle of a mini-move right now. Only 29G tank, and only moving it 50' away. I completed the move part, just about ready to move my fish, which are in bags floating in my other tank, to float in their tank so I can acclimate them...

I have never heard on a powerhead doin that. I wouldn't think it was possible they are magnets, wouldn"t it have to reverse polarity to do that?

Yes i miss the little guy already:( Sucks when you try so hard to keep something alive and then a silly power head kills him in an instant.

I don't know...it keeps on doing it still though. I find it sucking so i unplug it and plug it back in and its blowing correctly and then next time i check the stupid thing is sucking again! There are no other fish in that bin right now but the power head will be moved back to the display when its all set up again. I don't think it was sucking before in the display but i guess there is no way to really be sure.

If the PH is having problems now I wouldn't trust it back in the tank. I would ditch it and get a new one. No since in risking any other lives on a "hope it doesn't do it again".

Send it to NASA
hahaha

Yah it might get ditched, it has currently stopped reversing itself but there is definitely a chance it could happen again. It is fairly new so maybe our LFS will exchange it.

We got about 6 inches of water in the tank yesterday and all the sand. Took a good 4 hours of rinsing sand. We kept some of it in a heated bucket but some was rinsed with freshwater....causing everything to die and rot...bad ideaaa. Had to be rinsed pretty much in ice cream bucket sizes to get it actually clean. We rinsed the stuff we kept live in some old saltwater that we weren't planning on adding to the tank. Going to add more water today and the baserock, possibly take this chance to add more new sand as well. No leaks so far! :D

Best of luck. It's been really interesting to hear about your progress. It was the fear of having to go through all this that stopped me buying a second hand tank the other day and buying a new one instead.

Funny thing is that this is a newly bought tank! It should have warranty on it but unfortunately the store has since closed down.

I didn't get any pictures since they were almost done by the time got home and i kinda forgot . They used a utility knife to get the panel out. They said the leaky seam popped off without any effort, the other two were a lot more difficult. They then used razor blades to scrape the majority of the silicone off, then to get the little pieces wiped it down with rubbing alcohol and gasoline antifreeze. The antifreeze worked better than the alcohol. They also wiped it down with vinegar just in case. Resiliconing it looked like the easy part, just a continuous bead in a generous amount on all three sides then put it in place. A little tape held it in place as well as the stand since they pushed the tank back so the ledge would support the glass.

We added an extra 60lbs of sand today and the base rock, tank is now about half full and thankfully stilll no leaks :)

Tonight my brother and I got the rest of the rock/corals and fish moved into the tank. We did have a leak but thankfully I'm pretty sure it is in the plumbing to the overflow box, my dad is going to take a look at it tomorrow. So the tank is not running 100% but its pretty dang close. All fish seemed fine, breathing a bit heavy but they are pretty scared. Ammonia and nitrite both tested zero which is good, did not test for nitrate. I do have lots of pictures but I'm waiting for them to upload to photobucket and need to get to bed for school, so they will get posted tomorrow.

Well whatever happens, even if you have some losses I guess you now can trust that tank for a while.

Okay picturess!...I have lots so I'll try to narrow them down haha

Added sand and baserock

Also i forgot to mention but when my dad was repairing the tank they tried to move it while it was attached to the sump still, resulting in a cracked sump! The place where we had it made gave us some glue which should melt the acrylic back together, so far seems to be working.

We also spray painted the end piece instead of adding that black piece back in

The whole mess, as you can see my family is renovating/adding on to an old house, the basement hasn't gotten much attention. The tank will eventually have a wall built around it.
