Somebody on here suggested it. Then my LFS said they had a tank with that setup. I know the WPG rule does not apply to LEDs so I thought it would be ok. I need some ontop to grow duckweed and some on the side to grow low light plants.Sorry to say, that stuff won't grow your plants, not enough power. Look here for proper DIY aquarium LEDs... LEDs on the sides of the tank is not a good idea if you plan on having fish. You are going to blind them. Have you ever looked straight at a LED at close range while it was on? DON'T!
I dont have enough room....What about two desk lamps on either side shining in at an angle from the top. Get a couple cheap ones with decent reflectors then use some screw in CFLs.
