If I do end up using the melafix...it says to remove activated carbon. Does that mean I should turn the filter off? But he needs clean water. Or should I take the filter cartridge out? If I do that, will I lose any bb that has grown on it?

If you use it use a 1/5 dose of melifix. The full dosage is too high for bettas.

Honestly, lots of options. Is that what is happening right now? Can you do a water parameter check?

i dont have a test kit but i felt his water and it felt warm tho his therm only read 80-82 so i did a 50% change and hes back to his calm self...

Ok. Well, since he perked up after the pwc, I am guessing his issue was raised water params. Watch to make sure he keeps acting normal now though.
How is his fin rot coming along?

almost completely healed... i turned his light off bc sometimes his light causes his water to be warm to the touch.... hes swimming around more and more active now but still taking rests at the bottom... earlier he was nearly laying on his side.... now when he rests he looks more like hes sleeping...
