A mini cycle?

Is it possible I could be going through a mini cycle of some sort? I added 100 pounds of live rock about a week ago and my nitrates jumped way up and there's a hint of nitrite. The rock was cured. Any ideas?

yeah, it's absolutely likely. Chances are the rock wasn't 100% cured, so you're seeing some die-off causing a bit of a cycle. if you're only seeing a hint of 'trites, you'll likely be okay, you'll just need to get the 'trates back down when it finishes.

It is possible. As Neilanh said it probably wasnt totally cured.

What exactly does it mean to cure rock? I did not cure my rock however the guy where I purchased it from said it was cured and all I had to before I put it in was a saltwater rinse from the die off.
