Hello all,

Just reviewing my future stocking options in my 28 gallon community tank.

I'm nearing the end of my fish-in cycle, and currently only 9 white cloud mountain minnows are in the tank.

Planning on adding:
3 mickey mouse platys (all female)
5 panda corys
5 kuhli loaches
1 honey gourami
6 or so amano shrimp

Should I look into siamese algae eaters or snails? I know the shrimp should eat some algae, but any recommendations? Thanks :)

I wouldn't do an SAE in a 28 IMO. They can get quite large. No tank necessarily "needs" an algae eater.

If you want some peaceful ones get Otocinclus and some shrimp/snails. Let the tank mature a few months before adding otos as they will eat the "biofilm" that is not present in very new tanks.

Thanks for the fast replies! I've been reading a lot of aquarium keeping/tropical fish books from my local library and a lot of them suggest keeping an algae eater.

I was only planning on keeping the shrimp, thanks for the feedback c:

I would also suggest nerite snails once you get some algea growing. Great little cleaners, they may lay eggs but they won't hatch in freshwater so no babies, and they have a low bioload and don't eat plants. Alison
