hi all,

we were doing so well....
one of our 3 lil' pigs is sick!
can it be popeye?

He stopped hanging with the lads, then started sitting in odd places
(the hollows of a leaf, on top of a driftwood, finally just facing the corner.)

we noticed on saturday that he had 1 bulging eye, which became 2 on sunday, at which point the 1st clouded over.
sunday we spent setting up a q tank, got him in it with some penicillin.
he eats pellets and frozen bloodworms, so we are holding out hope.
Today both his eyes are flatter but both cloudy and we think he can't see.

are we doing everything we should?

15G community

4 2mo old guppies
golden pleco
adult albino cory

10G Quarantine
1 sick wee cory (the 3rd of the 3 lil' pigs)

For infections like so I use Maracyn-two or Tetracycline Tabs
Also you could use triSulfa with Coppersafe depending if you have plants or not in the Q-tank.
When you buy a Mardel medication it comes with a really helpful chart
you can find it at the LFS just open the box and pull out the paper inside. The chart will allow you to find out the best Med for your fish and is easy to follow.
Goodluck.
Chris

oh, thank you for writing!
it's funny how your world starts revolving around these wee lads, isn't it?
will do that manana; i love a good resource!
What's yer opinion of Aquatronics meds?
the penicillin formulation is what he's getting now, & we used the spectrogram (wide spec antibiotic) when i had mollies shimmying and a danio with dropsy.
Now i'm wondering if it maybe we hurt 'em instead of helped. i feel so stupid for not having a Qtank earlier.

woo,
love that Maracyn-two, thanks Chrismac! :D

after a month in the Q-tank, Popeye the cory is ok and back in the 55G and after swimming perimeter laps for a few days (getting the lay of the land, we think) he's settled down and eating like a pig now that he's got some gravel under him. he really did not like that bare glass bottom in the q-tank!
he's blind as a bat, his eyes are just white now, but he can still 'wink' one! The other two cories will swim in formation with him, but don't seem to understand when he doesn't follow them!

blessings on this site! don't know what we'd do without you!
