Almost all fish skimming the surface...

Today I woke up to crystal clear water and the fish happily swimming about the bottom/ middle of the tank! Though I tested the water once more and it still gave the result of a strong 1 ppm.


It's the bacteria building itself up. That's the thing with fish in cycling compared to a Fishless. Fish in requires a lot of water changes to keep your fish safe. In Fishless you can let that ammonia top off at 4ppm with no harm done.

Yeah, if I'd started a fresh tank rather than taking a kit off of somebody's hands I would've been able to do it properly- we actually scored another 60lt tank with a tonne of gear for 20€, including a much better filter and over head light. Anyway, incase anyone is interested, here's the difference a day made:

Keep doing the water changes to get the ammonia down to 0ppm.
