I just noticed them in my aquarium this week, and there appear to be at least 10 or so...they are all situated at the base of my driftwood. I haven’t added anything in at least 6-7 months. I don’t see them swimming around and they appear to be anchored. Any thoughts are greatly appreciated!

The white worm or the other thing that looks to have moved slightly in pic?
The worms could be from overfeeding?

Oh, the white thing is part of a root; i’m Asking about the other bluish thing...

Interested as to what that might be as well. Any chance you can remove one and take a better picture ?

My driftwood developed an interesting "growth" on it as well. Mine is brown long strings however

They burrow when I get near them and I’m hesitant to disrupt the soil around me driftwood too much. If I can get one I will but they seem pretty wily.

It looks like a dorsal fin sticking out of the sub ?
Jaws???
I would try to catch it with tweezers but ,'you made need a bigger boat' !

All kidding aside I know many say earthworms live in water but my experience is they drown pretty quick in puddles and when fishing?? It looks like a big worm and its reaction to you says it has eyes IMO ??

Finally got a dead one & almost captured a live one. They are about 1-2” in length and flat and there are a bunch in my substrate now...I’ve attached a few pics of the dead one.

Read up on tubifex worms.
The appearance doesn't exactly match but the behavior does.
Reports say they live head down in the bottom eating in the sub and excreting above the surface.
Usually a sign of waste build up in the substrate .
Is it soft /worm like?

Thanks! They do appear soft @ in reading up, they do seem to act similarly though they don’t look at all like those I’ve seen in videos.

Yes, but these guys are buried pretty deep & would require disturbing most of the substrate

I would go section by section....
This , water changes and less feeding will hopefully starve them out..
I don't think they are tubifex ,just much like them..They survive where most don't .
They are a sign of an abundance of organics in the substrate IMO...
