Are standard Rubber Bands OK in the tank?

I use these to hold the Nori on a rock.

The bands are the standard stationary store variety that have that rubbery smell.

OK for the tank?

I'd like to use the white ones you get when you buy a clump of vegetable greens but I don't know where to buy them.

Another option is the plastic cable ties, apparently you can use them too.
