Thanks, but I was hoping for a recommendation for a battery vacuum, not a site to buy one from.

I have the "National Geographic" branded one they sell at Petsmart. It works great for my 18-24" deep tanks. I've not tried it in anything deeper or shallower. I like the design of it a lot and would probably look for something similar in another brand if Petsmart isn't handy.
(Had an old one that had a kind of sock as a filter and it was terrible. Avoid if they still make them...)
