beneficial to raise LR off sand??

I want to start a 30 gallon reef set up and want to know if its worth while to set the live rock above the sand bed. i was going to use egg crate with small pvc tube with an + cut in it to make small legs for the egg crate to sit on, just high enough so snails and mabey a goby can get under there and do their stuff. any ideas?

I do not set my LR on anything. i just push it into the sand a bit. My pistol shrimp dips all over under it.

I have most of my live in the sand a liuttle bit, but creating small overhangs for fish/shrimp. I also have some pieces piled on top of the larger pieces as well to give the tnak some height

Pistol shrimp and otehr burrowers should be able to dig a hole under liverock provided there is room between the rock and the glass bottom...and it isnt too deep wehre that room is.
