Alright, after months of preparation, the tank is taking shape, getting close to thinking about stocking it. I am going to be using Gulf live rocks from lr.com, so I am thinking about trying to match all the inhabitants to that region. Are there many attractive/colorful and readily available caribbean fish, coral and invertebrate species that I could fill out the tank with, or would I be better off not worrying about the origin of the species so much, and incorporate some indo-pacific species? i am interesting in creating an authentic biotope, but i also want to create an attractive, balanced, and harmonious reef.

you could do some on that region and find what you could put in your tank,if i was you i wouldn't do a bio-tope,its too much work seeing if they come from the same places and finding them is a real issue.

If you can find the stuff id say go for it but if not just mix them.
