I bought this guy on the advice of the manager of the LFS. He said that it was a Vieja Melanurus. Used to be Paratheraps. When I did my research, it blew my mind. I don't want a PHd in Cichlid genealogy, I just want to know what kind of fish I have and how best to care for it. When I bought it, the seller assured me he was a gentle giant. He's never steered me wrong before. Since I've had this fish in my 93 gallon cube, he has been completely docile toward the smaller fish (he's about 8-9 inches). He also comes to the glass whenever I come close to the tank. He's not shy. I realize that he will grow to 14-16 inches, but when he outgrows the 93, I plan to put him in the 125. I'm thinking it might be female because it doesn't have the hump on it's head. Any expert opinions?
