A friend wanted to build a aquriam to house a breeding pair of koi. Obviously everything would b regualted etc

But we was woundering how big would it need to be? Or can you just house a pregnant mother to have her eggs? Eitha way id imagine hed have to have a big one!

Honestly, leave them in the pond. Mothernature will take care of everything else!! A gravid koi (they do not become pregnant) would still need a male to fertilize eggs or they will be most likely reabsorbed. Depending on who you ask, a single, mature koi needs anywhere from 500-1000g per fish. I know some people estimate on the low side of 250-300g per fish but this is on the low side for a fish that can grow over 3ft. I am not sure if your friend has intentions of building an indoor pond for his finned friends.... :)
