I plan to get some LR from the LFS about 5 miles from my house. If I bring a bucket of water to carry the rocks home will this greatly reduce any "die-off"?
I've taken mine home in boxes for between 15-30min. The rocks were still pretty moist and I've never really seen any increase in ammonia/nitrates/trites that would suggest die off. I'd think only five miles, I wouldn't go out of your way to try and keep them soaked.
They'll do fine with wet newspaper over them in a box. Your LFS should do this for you, they'll soak the paper with tank water and you'll be fine. Mine was good for over an hour.
