Best brand of canister to buy for my 55 gallon tank

Eheim classics are the best for long-term reliability IME, but the flow rate may be lower than you want depending on your stocking.

People are mostly going to say eheim or fluval. I really like my fluval 406.

I'm going to be the oddball and say for the price and realibility sunsun 302 is my go to.

So far I really like my Colbalt. It's got an adjustable flow and the pump is on the exterior. This means more room for media and that you can maintain water circulation when you detach the canister for cleaning/maintenance.
The construction feels solid, but to be honest I haven't had it up and running long enough to comment on long-term reliability.

I got a CF500UV two years ago from TruAqua, have never had any problems with it, works great half the price of most filters I priced as well.

But the cf500uv doesn't come with any filtration

They must have changed it when I got mine they included it. Most there filters do.

Fluval 406 love them, I have 2 in one tank thinking to get 2 more for my other tank.
