Yesterday, I took apart both my Filstar XP3 filters from my 125 G African tank and cleaned them. This morning, I woke to a cloudy/bacterial blooming tank. Had anyone had this happen to them? Did I clean it too thoroughly?

For the cleaning, all that is needed is a quick rinse of the sponges in tank water, and if you have floss or the fine pad, a quick rinse in tank water. Any bio-media doesn't need to be cleaned unless there is too much gunk build-up, then a quick rinse of that as well in tank water. and you can rotate filters, do one one week, and the other the next. I've never had that happen when cleaning my XP3.

I did not clean the bio media, and don't plan to really. I did clean the pads, but did not replace them. Actually, tonight, the tank is once again clear. Guess it just took that 24 hours to replenish bacteria, etc. I will certainly only clean one at a time in the future.

Thanks!
