How often should I clean my 404? I have the sponges in the side they go in, polishing pads in the bottom chamber, carbon in the second drawer and biomax in the top 2. My tank contains 3 oscars and a pleco. Also is there a better set up for my media?

It really depends on performance and nitrates.

1. If it seems like you're getting a buildup of nitrates faster than you do water changes, it's probably time. Otherwise,

2. If the flow rate out of you output is significantly reduced, go for it.

As far as media, unless you're treating for chemicals or medicines, you can replace the carbon with more biomax.

I have a 305 and 405. I've never seen a 404, but it seems that they are pretty much the same. I run sponges on the side, ceramic rings in each basket. I don't run carbon in any tanks, and don't run polishing pads either.

I clean mine every other week, and I'd suggest you do the same. With those fish, they're pretty messy. Nitrates will jump quickly in canister filters.
