coconut shell

anybody know if theres a special way to prep coconut shells to go in an aquarium its been scrubbed sanded and had a few holes drilled in the top to help some ferns take root but i dont know if its toxic or will upset my little ecosystem and i can imagine it will float too i'v searched every where hope you guys can help

After I got the coconut out of the shell all I did was boil it for about ten minutes. Still have the "cave" after seven or so years! It won't float as long as you have a hole or two in it, as you do. :)
 
I microwaved mine after removing the flesh.

Then a quick boil, I attached Anubias to mine with twine about 5 days ago.

And if you push it into the substrate it won't be floating lol :)
