coraline algea vs. brown algea

I bought some LR with tons of purple algea on it. My tank has been up for 8 months with base rock that allot of the brown algea on it ! Should I wash off that brown algea before I put my LR in my tank or will it affect my tank parameters?

Is this cured LR? Does the tank contain fish/inverts?

I wouldn't wash the base rock...doing so could kill off the beneficial bacteria.

If its powder-like you can use a baster to gently blow it off and allow your mechanical filtration to remove it. Astraea snails will also devour diatoms.
