New fish keeper here. I'm a student and most of the time I stay up late, but I'm worried about my fish not getting enough darkness/rest. He's a betta fish in a 5gall planted tank. Should I cover the tank with a towel at night to block out light or does that usually stress fish out?

I'm usually up til 1 or so, but 3 isn't unusual. The aquarium timer lights are on automatic, so the tanks are mostly dark once they go off. Haven't seen an issue.

Unless you have really bright light directed into his tank, you should be fine. Ambient light doesn't seem to affect their rest cycle.
