So I am now in the planning stages for my 20 gallon reef. I am going to look a 20H and 20L tomorrow from Craigslist. They both are great deals but I want to make sure I get a stable tank. So here's my question what should my CUC be? In my 280 I had 4 brittle starfish, 5 turbos, 40 cerith snails, 50 Spiny Star Astraea Snail, 4 Serpent starfish, 25 Nassarius Snails, 4 Electric Blue hermits, and 20 Scarlet hermits. So as you can see I need help down sizing lol.

You don't need a single crab, starfish, or snail to have a thriving reef. "Cleanup crew" is nothing more than a way to sell livestock. Eating, pooping, creatures don't really clean anything. They also require more food to be added or they starve to death. This is why they say you need to "recharge" your cleanup crew every so often.
If you like snails and starfish, buy one or two just for the diversity, but not to help you with tank husbandry.
