Dirty nerite snails

So I was looking in my tank late last night to check and make sure my flounder was eating and I noticed my bigger nerite snails she'll was a brownish color so I turned on the light to get a better look and he had a coating of sand stuck to his shell. Is that normal or should I clean him off? He still seems to be able to move around easily.
