I got a 20 gallon for my birthday and have it set up with some rummynose and loads of plants.

Today i tested the water and here are my results.

Ph 7.6
Ammo:0 ppm
NitrIte: 0ppm
NitrAte: 5.0 ppm
Temp 80f

What should my levels be at normally? I used seeded filter media to cycle it.

How long has the tank been set up? Based on those test results you're cycled, perfect readings.

Those levels are perfect. Ammonia and nitrite should always be 0 and you don't want nitrates to raise higher than 20ppm.

Awesome! The tank has been set up since Late April ish.

So what happens if i get some ammonia or nitrite readings in the future?

Worry about it "if" it happens then not now. But anytime ammonia or nitrites go above .25ppm a 50% WC is needed or even 2 if the readings are high. There are only a few things that would cause ammonia issues and honestly don't worry about it if you aren't having a problem.
