Because I am putting my sump behind my tank( through a wall) I was wondering how much fall I need for my drain line. Can it be only a few inches or should I make it pretty steep? Any thoughts are appreciated.

Thanks for the advice. One more question, since I'm using a glass-holes overflow(700) can I reduce the 1 1/2" drain line to 1" or should I keep it 1 1/2" the whole way. 40b with eheim compact 2000 pump. Thanks again

You can lower it to 1" if you like, but why would you? it can never hurt to have a larger drain than necessary.

I wouldn't reduce the holesize. The water flow also depends on the holesize and a smaller hole may mean an ocerflow less than 700 gph. Also, the bulkhead they gave you should be for a 1 1/2" hole as well as the hole in the overflow itself so I would say no.
