Filter Help! So Confused!!

Hi i have a TopFin 60 HOB filter. i have heard so many different things about how often and how to change the filter pads. i really need help because after reading a few threads i am now so confused. i usually change both once a month, or if they look brownish-greenish, chucking the fabric bag and the carbon ( i buy the ones you must put togethor ) but the pad frame gets reused. I really need to know if i am doing it right or if there are errors in my ways. also how often should i take the filter off and just spray it off, if ever?

Don't replace it. By doing that you are throwing away all the bacteria keeping the tank cycled. If it gets clogged swish it in some tank water in a bucket. Don't use chlorinated tap water.
