I have a 44g pentagon. Currently I'm running a marine land penguin filter 200. I don't think this is enough. The problem is the lid on my tank only has a cut out size of 10in. My current filter is 9in. Is there a stronger filter that is only 10in in length?.

Aquaclear AC70, 300 gph and 8.5 inches in length, should do the trick for you. You could also look at a canister.
