Filtration

I'm currently running 2 canister filters on a 125g. An api filstarXPL (175g) & a Magnum something ( 75g piece of crap that came with the aquarium). I want to replace the magnum with a new (better) canister filter. Would it be best that I just stick with another api product or is it better to mix it up a little with a different brand?

I can't think of an advantage to specifically running different brands. The basic, overall functionality should be roughly the same. The difference in brands comes down to reliability and longevity.
If you're happy with the API canister, then go ahead and get another. On the plus side, you won't need to shop for two different sets of filter media.
