So I am getting a 55 gallon tank and stand for $50 off CL on Moday. Super excited. So, you are probably wondering why I am calling this crazy. I'll tell you why. I'm keeping dwarf seahorses, an angler, and reef community fish in one tank! You're probably thinking: "What the heck?? How?? You're crazy!" Well, I'm not. I'll be dividing the tank into three parts. A 5 gallon for the dwarf seahorses, 30 gallon for the angler, and 20 gallon for the reef-ish portion. I'll be running the 5G on a separate system since they have different temp needs. The other two sections will be sharing a sump powered by an algae turf scrubber in a 10 or 20 gal sump.
The sump will be fed from a single overflow box shared by the 30 and 20 gallon sections. The two sections (20 and 30 gallon) will be separated by a clear plastic mesh screen so water can flow through and that way they can share an overflow box. The seahorse tank will be separated by a glass or plexiglass divider.
For lighting, I am thinking a par38 bulb over the reef part, and some cheap LED over the other parts.. I will have to find something that will be able to grow macro algae for the seahorses to hang onto.
Stocking:
Seahorse Tank
3 Pairs of Adults, Leaves a little room for the babies they are bound to have.
Snails for CUC
Angler Tank
1 Red/Orange Angler or Sargassum Fish.
Snails/Hermits for CUC
Community Reef
Not quite sure yet. I'd like to have a goby or blenny, a clownfish, a couple yellow/orange chromoise, and a couple Kaudern's Cardinal fish.
Snails, Hermits, and Shrimp for CUC
I'll draw up a few diagrams for you guys. If you have any questions, feel free to ask I'm expecting a lot
Any comments about design and stocking are welcome
