Firemouth without color

My fire mouth does not have any color on its belly. I am just curious as to why. My tank is a bit small but not bad. I have a 30 gallon with a small terror a Texas and another fire mouth which is about 4 inches. My levels are good. Nitrates go up every once in a while but that's all. He eats and swims around fine and seems healthy. Any suggestions?

he is still juvenile.. both mine looked the sane now they are full color.. takes a few months fir them to grow
