Just did my test

pH: around 7.6
Ammonia: 1-2ppm
Nitrites: A color that isn't on the chart so not sure
NitrAtes: about 20

I believe my nitrAtes were a little higher last i tested them. What does it mean if they're dropping?

You did a water change so they are bound to be lower. You should change enough water so that nitrite is back on the scale.

75% change completed. Waited about an hour and a half and then tested:

GH: 180
KH: 40
PH: 7.4ish
Ammonia: .25-.50ppm
NitrIte:1-2ppm
NitrAte: 5ppm

I'll test again in the morning. What do I do from here??

I give the glass a quick scrub every once in a while. And I had a hair algae bloom a little while ago that I took care of.

Ok so I did my test tonight after last night's water change:

Ammonia: 0ppm
PH: 7.6
NitrIte: back to an unreadable color
NitrAte: 10ppm (up from 5ppm last night)

So now that my ammonia is zero and my nitrites and nitrates went up from consuming what was left of the ammonia last night, do I now add more ammonia or am I doing another water change? If adding ammonia, what ppm should I be adding to? And if water change, what am I looking for after it?
