Flushing the RO-DI membrane

Well I think I might have screwed up, it's been about a year since I've had my RO-DI unit and I was just reading the instructions and it says I need to flush my membrane (I guess the little part on top of the RO-DI unit) once a month or every 1000 gallons. I have yet to do this. Is it difficult? Do I just switch the lines or something to flush it out? The instructions are some what unclear. Definitely want a clean membrane before I make all that water for the 180 gallon I'm getting.
