Fluval 404 Media

Hey
I have a 72 Gal bow front

2 x 40GalWisper Power Filters
2 x 402 Powerheads with Quick filters
and
Fluval 404

This canister has 4 baskets for media

I put ceramic rings in the bottom basket
then i put coarse filter media from Eheim as well as carbon packs from fluval in the second basket
More coarse filter media from Eheim mixed with EhfiSubstrate went into the third basket then i filled the final basket with
BioMax and substrate

if anyone has this filter..What combinations of media do u use?
Does anyone mix the media ?
use other brand media ?


I just hooked up the 404 and have had it running for about 3 days. the water just got cloudier and milky This happened before but never like this!

I did a water change

I have cycled a tank before but this is bad..

im waiting for an eheim filter as well and i hope that it will help more

anyone have any suggestions on my setup ????

Hi,

I'm not sure if the Eheim filter is required, you seem to have plenty. As far as media is concerned, the ceramic rings are called either pre-filter media, or BIO-Max rings, and should go on te top basket, as the water that flows through them should be as pure as possible.

I use carbon in the bottom basket, Chemi-pure in the middle basket, and BIO-Max rings in the top basket. When did you first cycle the tank? Are you sure it was completely cycled? If yes, introducing the new filter media may cause some cloudiness if they are not well rinsed.

The only advice I can give you is test your water daily for Ammonia, Nitrites and Nitrates. If you see anything the least alarming do a 25% water change. If nothing comes up, then it's probably just the media, and should clear off within a week. Should be armless to fish.

2-Fluval 404's hooked up together in line 340gph each
1 Eheim 2128 270gph
2 Wisper 40's HOB 145gph each
2 402 Aquaclear Powerheads with 2 Quick filters 270 gph each
thats 1480gph of filtration 20 times turnover an hour 8O

I use different Media in all my filters
In thge fluvals I use
EhfiMech
EhfiFlav
EhfiFix
EhfiSubstrate
BioMax
Ammocarb
Fine Filter Media

In the Eheim I use
EhfiMech
EhfiFix
EhfiFlav
EhfiSubstrate
Fine Filter Media

In the Wispers I use
Media Bag
Ammocarb

In the Quickfilters I use
EhfiFix
Fine Filter Media

I also have the Fluval 404.
In the bottom basket I use carbon, in the next basket I use peat, the next basket has filter floss and the top basket has Bio-max rings.

I took the wispers and 402 powerheads out
Im gonna use them to filter my tap water in the 30 gal tank
