Freshwater Mussels

G'day All,

I have had some freshwater mussels in my tank for a few weeks now, though I am noticing their shells starting to degrade. I was wondering whether there is a way to improve them.

I haven't kept mussels, but I have had problems with snail shell degradation. What is your pH?

I am sitting at about 7.5-8. This might be a little too high? I use a sand substrate as well it that makes a difference

I heard if you put cuddle bone under the sand then it helps stop that.

Most clams and mussels starve to death in aquariums, maybe it's not getting enough food.

Aren't they filter feeders? I would think the tank water would be too clean.

They are filters and very hard to keep.
