Maybe its because my grandfather just died, but I don't see how it's creepy. It's not like they are anchoring a dead body and throwing it overboard--I'm (hopefully) too young to think about that stuff yet, but I will be considering it when I die.

Not creepy at all. I have told the wife that would be something nice she could do. No creepeer than having someone spreed ashes over the water. They take your ashes and mix it with concrete to form reef building blocks. These blocks are then put in locations off the coast to encourage reef building corals to attach and start to grow. This also encourages fish and other wildlife to habitate the area.
