Hey, i was wondering how i could get a gold stripe maroon to get a mate. Or any clown in general. Do the have to be in pairs when you buy them? or can you get 2 and hope that one will live and get along, lol.

Get same species either get one larger or smaller. They will change sex accordingly. larger female, smaller male. If you get the same size they will fight until established and sex determined.

I would suggest getting two young clowns for best results. Some clowns won't take to another clown regardless. But raising them together gives you the best chance of success IMO. Espcecially when dealing with maroon clowns. HTH
