good external pump for scwd?

I want to set up a closed loop scwd and I was wondering what are some good choices for a pump. Most people seem to use the mag's but if you got any better ideas let me know.

A Gen-X mak 4 pump is 1182 GPH and alot safer to run externally than the mags. Plus it is only $135. So it is close in price to a mag 12.

is that too much for a 29 gallon tank?

It flows pretty well in my tank. Im thinking of changing to a OM Squirt though.

i use a rainbow quiet one 3000 external pump. 790gph.

I was also considering the quiet one 3000, I couldnt imagine using a pump that puts out over 1000gph
