I like adjustable heaters so you can change the temp if needed. Auto heater your at the mercy of the unit.

I happen to be fond of the AqueonPro series

This is how they work
The water temp drops below what it is set at and it kicks on to raise the temp back up once it reaches the temp that its set at it kicks off. So they go off on all the time. And I agree with convict I like those heaters aswell

Yes, you set it at the temp you want & the heater kicks on & off as needed.
