Hello! I have a 10 gallon tank that had 3 platies, 3 ember tetras, and a cherry shrimp. My tank is located at my dad's house, and I am there about 50% of the time, so my dad has to feed the fish and make sure they are doing ok.
Today I am at my Dad's house, and I find two ember tetras stuck on the filter intake, and one lying in the corner, all a pale milky white color, and DEAD!!! My three platies are fine, but they seem to have lost a bit of their color, and they are staying at the bottom of the tank, not zipping around, playing with each other as normal. My shrimp was less active also. I also had 4 platy fry. Now I can only find 1 and it acts like the others.
My tank is planted and I noticed my crypts were less colorful, and had darker green and slightly transparent, spots all over their leafs. The leafs seemed to be curled up also. My java ferns looked browner than usual and their are small holes and tears on them.
I was shocked by all of this, and Immediately tested my parameters:
PH: 8.2-8.4
Ammonia: 0
Nitrite: 0
Nitrate: 5-10
I think there are 5 possibilities of what caused all this:
1. I recently added a heater
2. I recently started using Seachem flourish comprehensive
3. I recently added more plants
4. Last Wednesday, I wasn't at my dad's house to do a water change as normal, so I had to do it Sunday.
5. My dad did something to the tank accidentally
Also, I'm going to be in Wyoming for 7 days tomorrow. I can't do a water change because I'm leaving to go to the airport at 5:00 a.m. Will this cause a problem?
Thank you!
