Ive had my tank set up for 3 weeks, put 3 danios in after the first and 2 more a few days later. The 2nd week one danio died but the others seem healthy as can be, did a master liquid test and still am showing no nitrites and high ammonia. The guy at the lfs said to do a water change another guy at the same store said not to. What do you guys recommend?

Definitely do a water change....

Also, use Seachem Prime or API's Ammo-Lock to make the ammonia inert..it'll still be present but it won't be toxic to the fish. You are still going to have to do frequent water changes, in the range of 5-6 a week and about 50%, depending on your ammonia redings at testing, in order to keep the ammonia levels down while the tank cycles. The reading should not be higher than .25.

What size tank is it?
