Wow, how does anyone get any info on that site, those folks are all over the place!
Fish can live in less than or better than pH (except the extreme levels). The main key is stability. I am speaking to SW and would tend to imagine it is the same in FW. A long drip acclimation is a good way to get the fish used to your tank's specific parameters.

From what I saw in that thread before I had to close it, it didn't seem like they were all that serious about either their tank or getting help.
