I bought this little guy from the local aquarium with the understanding that they were a bristlenose. Plec (otherwise known as Gandalf) is currently housed in a 50 gallon tank with some corys, bettas and tetras for tank mates. I'm not sure how old Gandalf is, but I know that in the 4 months I've had Gandalf, they are close to having doubled in size. Gandalf is definitely still quite young still, and I suspect they still have some growing to do. Gandalf is approximately 4 cm at the moment. I thought they were a bristlenose, but I'm not so sure as Gandalf's nose remains remarkably free of any bristles. It would be great if anyone would be able to help with identifying them (and also sexing if possible). I want to be sure of Gandalf's species as to ensure I will be able to house Gandalf for the duration of their life.
I know plecs can get huge, and I'm hoping Gandalf is instead of the variety of plecs that get managebly large.
Would they benefit from being housed with other members of their species? My rudimentary understanding is that they are quite solitary but again, they are not 'my' species of fish (my knowledge pretty much starts and ends with bettas). I have a 200 gallon tank that is not set up and needs a stand, but if Gandalf is going to get massive, I do at least have a back up plan.
I have attached some photos for reference!

Any help would be appreciated. Thank you in advance.

Hi and welcome to the forum :)

How much did you pay for the fish?
How big is it?

Just looks like an albino bristlenose catfish. They sell for around $10-30 each. Males develop bristles on the face when mature (about 12 months old), females might get a few short bristles but very few. They grow to 4-5 inches long
