Helping friend get started

Hi guys! My friend is looking to get started in the hobby and is hoping to get a 55 gal tank, he is hoping to plant the tank. We are just looking for some suggestions on the best fish for him to start with, all advice is appreciated

Schooling fish like tetras and rasboras. Dwarf cichlids or angels are plant friendly. Algae cleanup crews like nerites and otos.

Thank you but what type of dwarf cichlid? I know that German rams aren't really beginner friendly

Bolivian rams are hardier. Kribensis are super hardy. Some apistos are not as touchy as GBR's because they're not overly bred.

But for ease, price, and hardiness, the Kribs are probably a good beginner dwarf cichlid.

Edit: scratch the convicts and fm cichlid. But angels are good.
