I know. I thought that, too, and asked her how reliable they were. She said she has used them for years and never had any problems and that she has 8 tanks.

This about nitrates in drinking water:
"To protect infant health, the Environmental Protection
Agency (EPA) and the Department of Environmental
Resources (DER) established standards and limits for
nitrates in public water supplies. Supplies should not
contain more than 45 mg/l of nitrate or 10 mg/l of
nitrate-nitrogen. While private wells do not fall under
EPA or DER jurisdiction, it is advisable that they meet
these limits." http://resources.cas.psu.edu/WaterResources/pdfs/nitrate.pdf

I'm not a chemist. API tests for "total nitrate." Any chemists in here? The API booklet also says "(Other nitrate test kits that measure 'nitrate-nitrogen' (NO3 N) will give readings 4.4 times LESS than this test kit.)

The water guy called while I was at my brother's. I'm sure I'll talk to him tomorrow.
