I have been looking for an aquarium to start my new saltwater tank, and my eyes almost popped yesterday! I was walking through Wal-Mart, and there was a brand new All-Glass Aquarium, 46-gallon bow front with a nice stand and hood included for $198! Now, don't worry, I am not going to buy any componentry at Wal-Mart, but I couldn't pass a deal like that up...the same setup is $449 at Petco right now!
So anyway, I have a month or two to save before I start buying filters, heaters, etc...I am curious to ask, just so that I make sure I leave enough room behind the aquarium, what will I need bare minimum to get started with saltwater? And once I have it set up, what will I need to maintain it? I have a small 10 gallon saltwater aquarium that is going very nicely right now that will be my quarantine eventually.
Here is what I have so far to buy:
Substrate (haven't decided sand or crushed coral)
Live Rock (30 to 45 pounds)
Filter (Penguin 350?)
Heater
Protein Skimmer
And of course fish, but I can still go many ways with that...what is your opinion of other components that I might need? Any hints?
