Hi

I just checked my aquarium water and my pH is at 6.6. What is the best way to raise it without the use of chemicals?

For the substrate could i just put like 5 lbs in the gravel?

I have a 70 gallon. I have two marineland 350 filters that create pretty good flow throughout the tank.

what fish do you have in the tank? i have south american cichlids and the ph at 6.6 is actually perfect for them. that's the same ph i have. i go as low as 6.4 and they are all fine. same fish for about 2 years with beautiful color.

I have 6 african peacock ciclids, 1 rainbow shark, 2 synodontis multipunctus, and 2 clown loaches

Agreed put a cups worth in a media bag of some sort. They sell bags at the lfs or you can use panty hose. You can hide it in the tank or put it in a filter whatever you prefer

Why you trying to raise yout ph? I know its a little low put stable ph is better. Only asking to gain information.

Edit: what is your water source ph?

African peacock ciclids like like a higher ph of at least 7.80. My ph is only 6.40.

good advice to use a media bag and not spread on the bottom of the tank in case you need to remove it. much easier to pick out a bag as opposed to trying to scrape it off the bottom. :)

Yes. I agree. You all have been very helpful. Thanks everyone.
