How many shrimp?

I gave a forty gallon tank currently stocked with 3 tiger barbs, 4 zebra danio, 2 candy platies, 2 pearl gouramis, 2 albino plecos, 2 rainbows and 2 swordtails. I was thinking of getting cherry red shrimp. Are they safe with these kinds of fish and if so how many should I buy?

You could put 1000 shrimp in there. Every fish except maybe the pleco will eat the shrimp as fast as they can. Unless you're providing snacks for you shrimp, I wouldn't put any in there. Shrimp are best in a shrimp only tank or with some nano fish like rasboras.
