how should I clean lava rock before adding it to my aquarium

I just purchased some lace rock which I think is a type of lava rock. I was wondering how I should go about cleaning it before adding it to my aquarium My aquarium just started to cycle so anything that dies off should help the cycle, right 8)

Lace rock should be a calcium carbonate rock, not lave rock. As for cleaning...all I've ever done is rinse it under the hose.
