Thanks everyone. After some googling they've agreed it's probably a flowerhorn. He's not in the best of shape as the owners didn't exactly care for him and were about to throw him in a creek. So she's taken him on not knowing anything about him simply to save him from the creek.

What size tank you got him in? Any tankmates?

If it's a flowerhorn, you'll probably need 40+ Gallons. I understand they can be extremely aggressive too, so you'd probably need to keep it alone unless you have a much, much bigger tank.

He's not mine but the new owner gave him a 75g all for himself, he's approx 30cms already. She keeps a tiger oscar in a separate tank and takes really good care of him so he'll do just fine.
